Get ready, Fort Collins. The annual Tour de Fat returns to Fort Collins tomorrow morning. Roads are surely to be jam-packed with cyclists in crazy, fun and hysterical costumes.

Roads will begin to be closed down at 6:00 AM on Saturday to prepare for the parade route. So, where and when does the Tour de Fat start?

The Tour de Fat parade begins at 10:00 AM tomorrow morning at the intersection of Maple and Meldrum street. From there, the parade will proceed down Meldrum over to Mountain Ave and then west towards Bryan Street. Cyclists and parade goers will then proceed east on Oak Street, go north on Jackson and east again after hitting Mountain. From there, parade goers and cyclists will head toward the end of the parade route.

The fun doesn’t stop with the parade. The Tour de Fat festival begins later in the day at 3:00 PM, which includes a live concerts at the New Belgium Brewery. Buckingham Street will be closed due to the festival between First and Linden Street.

Much has changed in the Tour de Fat festival from the previous 18 years. There are a few things to know about the festival this year before heading toward the festivities.


1. Change of Venue

After the parade in past years, festival goers would proceed to the nearby parks at Washington and the Civic Center beer, food and music. The festival will be taking place in a new location this year. New Belgium Brewing will hosting the festival activities located at 500 Linden St. Doors open for the festival at 3:00 PM post-parade. Included in the festivities are live performances from numerous bands, including the famous X Ambassadors and All-American Rejects. The  Ambassadors hit the stage at 6:05 PM and All American Rejects at 7:40 PM.

2. Costs of Tickets

This will be a first for anyone who is familiar with past Tour de Fats. While cost of the festival have been free in the past, festival-goers will have to pay $25 to be part of the fun day. The reason for the costs is that of New Belgium’s philanthropic efforts to give money back to the local community. Tickets can be purchased online or at New Belgium’s box office which will be opening at 12:00 Pm. Free tickets for children 12 and under.

3. Parties before Tour de Fat 

Between the time the parade stops and the festival starts, many people will have some time to kill. In order to keep you all busy and having fun, New Belgium teamed up with local bars and restaurants to provide pre-parties. Locations include place such as High Point Bar, Illegal Pete’s, Blind Pig Pub, Moe’s BBQ, Lucky Joe’s Sidewalk Saloon, The Trailhead Tavern and The Downtown Artery. All restaurants and bars are located in Old Town.


Other things to know:

  • The Tour de Fat isn’t just about the biking and the music. The festival will also include a dance contest, circus performances and a fashion show. There will be two fixed stages, a roaming “Sputnik Stage, and vaudeville acts.
  • New Belgium has teamed up with Lyft offering discounts in order for attendees to get home safe. Get $5 off two rides using the code TOURDEFAT17.
  • Bike Fort Collins, Overland Mountain Bike Club, Fort Collins Bike Co-op and Ciclismo Youth Foundation are also causes the benefit this year from the Tour de Fat 2017.
