As you fire up the grill this week and gather with friends and family to celebrate Independence Day, don’t forget to stop by your local Schraders and grab your favorite snack!

Just in time for summer, Frito-Lay performed its latest U.S. Snack Index to decide what product types and habits are Americans’ favorite.

Fourth of July week happens to be Frito-Lay’s largest snacking week of the entire year, and the study indicated Americans are highly particular when choosing just the right snack for every summer occasion.

The U.S. Snack Index also showed variances in generation and geography when it comes to summer snacking in America.

For example, Chicago prefers bold, spicy and new flavors considerably more than Americans in general. This is indicated by 44 percent in Chicago choosing new flavors over traditional.

Chips are by far the popular snack of choice for summer gatherings.

About half of Americans decide to bring chips to a picnic, cookout or backyard barbecue, with potato chips in particular being the preferred option. Tortilla and corn chips, however, lead the way when it comes to rooftop get-togethers.

Snacks are also the star of the show with summer travel and entertainment.

Millennial parents are doing more camping, and 80 percent of parent travelers prioritize snacks on trips. With respect to entertainment, 84 percent of Americans believe their summer is made by snacks.

So break out your lawn chairs, tear open a bag of chips, and enjoy the fireworks this Fourth of July the American way.
