Labor Day Weekend is only a few days away. Labor Day was first made a federal holiday in 1894 and came about from the labor movement. On the first Monday of September we pay tribute to the contribution that workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well being of our country.

Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

You know what else it means? Yep, it’s a fun filled weekend celebrated with a number of events throughout the country. Whether your a sports fan, music enthusiast, artist or just looking for family fun, there is something for everyone!

Let’s take a look at what will be happening throughout Colorado this coming weekend from Denver to Fort Collins.

A Taste of Colorado

When: September 1-3, 2018

Where: Civic Center Park, Denver, CO

A Taste of Colorado has been a way to celebrate Labor Day Weekend for 35 years now. An experience for everyone, the festival features 50 food vendors, more than 25 national and regional music acts, 175 marketplace vendors and a Kids Zone. The Kids Zone experience includes a children’s entertainment stage, arts and crafts.

Musical acts for this year’s Taste of Colorado includes acts such as FireFall, Leann Rimes, Sugar Ray and Everclear to name a few. Entry to the event is free but you can buy VIP tickets for exclusive concert viewing and food and beverage area.

FORTitude 10K

When: Monday, September 3, 2018

Where: City Park Ave and W. Elizabeth St, Fort Collins, CO

Now on its second year, the Fortitude 10K brings together the community of runners Fort Collins. The event began last year as a way to celebrate Fort Collins and the new Sonny Lubick Field at Canvas Stadium. Runners will begin at Shield and Elizabeth street, taking runners on a scenic route through Fort Collins before ending at the new Sonny Lubick Field at Canvas Stadium.

Everyone running will receive a race shirt, finisher’s certificate, an official timing chip, snacks and more. Registration is still open for the event.

Tour de Fat

When: Saturday, September 1, 2018

Where: New Belgium Brewing, Fort Collins, CO

A favorite of many in the community, the Tour de Fat is now on its 19th year raising money for local bike non profits. Participate or watch as bikers (many in costumes) ride through the streets of Fort Collins between 9:30AM and 12:30PM.

Following the bike parade in the morning, New Belgium will host the rest of the festivities beginning at 2:00PM until 8:00PM.  Tickets for this portion of the event cost $15 and includes a talent show, dance contest and music with Phosphorescent as the headliner.

Rocky Mountain Showdown

When: Friday, August 31, 2018

Where: Broncos Stadium at Mile High, Denver, CO

An annual event, the CSU Rams and CU Buffs will meet once again, continuing their rivalry at the Rocky Mountain Showdown. The game begins at 7:30 PM Friday night and can be viewed on the CBS-SPorts Network if you are unable to attend. While CSU could use this win after their loss to Hawaii, CU is currently the betting favorite.

Tickets to the game range from $38 – $100. Tickets can be purchased on CSURams.com or at the McGraw Athletic Center on the CSU campus, west side of Moby Arena.

Thunder in the Rockies

When: August 31 – September 3, 2018

Where: Thunder Mountain Harley Davidson, Loveland, CO

The four day Labor Weekend event brings in a large number of motorcycle enthusiasts and hardcore bikers from all over. The weekend includes demo fleets, nightlife rodeo entertainment, a Forever Family ride Sunday morning and music from local and national bands. This year includes performances by artists Bret Michaels, Tesla, and A Thousand Horses.

Windsor Harvest Festival

When: September 1-3, 2018

Where: Windsor, CO

Now on its 97th year, the family friendly festival takes place over the 3 day course in a number of different locations. Events throughout the weekend include lives music, hot-air balloons (weather permitting), an all town BBQ, fireworks, kids activities and Northern Colorado’s largest parade.

Red Rocks Concerts

When: August 31 – September 2, 2018

Where: Red Rocks Park & Ampitheatre

Red Rocks Ampitheatre has a good line up for the weekend Labor Day Weekend. On Friday, Atmosphere will start off the weekend with other artists Evidence, Dem Atlas, Grieves and DJ Keezy. Gramatik will be performing Saturday night with Gryffin, Ramzoid Haywire and Balkan Bump. The weekend will end with Jason Mraz and Brett Dennen performing on Sunday.

Fireworks at Elitch Gardens Theme & Water Park

When: Sunday, September 2, 2018

Where: 2000 Elitch Circle, Denver, CO 80204

What better way to celebrate a holiday than with fireworks! Presented by Pepsi, Elitch Gardens will be lighting up Downtown Denver with a fireworks show. The fireworks show will begin at the time the park usually closes.
